Henry Goes to the Hospital is a mini book written by Christopher Awdry and illustrated by Ken Stott.
Plot
One morning when Henry is waiting at the station he sees a nurse. She is going to work at the hospital as she tells Henry's driver. Everyday the nurse is there and then one morning, she is not there, but they do all they can to wait for her. Eventually, it is time to go and the train leaves without her.
One day it is stormy and the rain falls as Henry travels slowly down the line. At the station the signal says stop. Henry's driver looks out of the cab to see what is wrong, but they have been held up far too long. A little girl named Amy had hurt her leg and the ambulance is stuck in the mud, so Henry is needed. Henry is delighted to help the girl. She is carried to a coach on a stretcher and the nurse is with her. The nurse is assuring her everything will be all right.
Henry sets off when everything was ready. He travels carefully so that Amy will not hurt her leg again. At the station near the hospital another ambulance meets Amy and the nurse to take them to the hospital. The nurse shows Amy an x-ray of her leg. Her ankle is not broken, only sprained. The nurse calls Amy a lucky girl and bandages her ankle.
Amy wants to go home on Henry's train. The nurse says to ask her mother. They go to the station to thank Henry, and so does the Fat Controller, who calls him a really useful engine, which makes Henry very proud.

Trivia
- In Australia, the book was released with an audio tape or CD of the story read by Ron Haddrick.
- Henry is in his old shape in this story, which implies that this story may have taken place before his accident in The Flying Kipper or it could of been an illustration error.
Goofs
- Henry's bogie and tender wheels are grey instead of green.
- The engines are missing their brake pipes and lamp irons.
- On the cover, Henry has his handrails, but in the book, his handrails are missing.
- In the tenth illustration, Henry is missing his cab windows.
