Baby Jane

This is the profile of my first "Thomas & Friends" character for the Railway Series.

Bio When Bill and Ben get overloaded with too much work, the Fat Controller decided to have a very unique tank engine to be built. After building, the new engine was named Baby Jane and she now works with Bill and Ben as the third engine belonging to the Sodor China Clay Company.

Personality Baby Jane is a hard-working tank engine, who often takes on too much work. However, she had some difficulties when she first came to Sodor because, with a very high bufferbeam, she found it hard to see what was ahead of her. Once she was fitted with a pair of glasses, Baby Jane found it much easier to work. Though the trucks tease Baby Jane for pulling only three or four of them at a time, they know better not to play any tricks on her.

Livery Baby Jane carries the same livery as Bill and Ben; yellow-orange with red stripes and carries the No.3.

Basis Baby Jane is based on a very unique Peckett 0-4-0 side tank engine nicknamed "the Flying Bufferbeam", which has survived into preservation.

Trivia

  • Baby Jane was originally built with a very low cab. However, as this made her driver and fireman uncormfortable. So, during her time at the Works to have a pair of glasses fitted, Baby Jane had her low cab removed.
  • Baby Jane was launched into service by Lancashire actress, Jane Horrocks.

Michelle

This is the profile of my second "Thomas & Friends" character, though this one is for my idea of a feature-length musical called "Invasion of the Monorail".

Bio Michelle is P. T. Boomer's railway motorbike and Diesel 10's trusty side-kick. Unlike Splatter and Dodge, she agrees with Diesel 10's intentions to destroy steam engines and her plan is to have monorails all over Sodor.

Personality Michelle is very reckless for a motorbike, and believes that speed is everything. However, Michelle is P. T. Boomer's thirteenth motorbike, which considers her unlucky. But, she always ensures that her bad luck won't get the better of her, which occassionally does!

Basis Michelle isn't based on any particular machine. She is basically a motorbike with a bufferbeam at each end. As she runs on a mono-rail, she has guide wheels attached to her bufferbeam via some beams of metal. Also, Michelle has two flanges on her big disc wheels.

Livery Michelle is painted black with red stripes and has the number 13 painted on her bodywork.

Trivia

  • Michelle's toy model is a modified ERTL model of "Tenderless James".

Merlin

This is the profile of my third "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Belonging to Brendam Shipping Company, Merlin is a van who can carry a variety of loads. The majority of his journeys out on the mainline are with Henry, James, Donald and Douglas. Like Hector, he is a very friendly character amongst the Trucks.

Trivia

  • Merlin's toy model is the red "Brendam Shipping Company" Magical Cargo Van in the Take-Along range.

Fleur

This is the profile of my fourth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Fleur is a female truck belonging to Sodor Fireworks. She loves fireworks, especially as they make big bangs! However, Fleur is a very careful truck as she knows the risks and dangers of rockets, so she is never placed amongst the goods trains; she has to be taken to the fun fairs and harvest festivals with a very careful engine, like Edward.

Trivia

  • Fleur's toy model is the blue "Sodor Fireworks" truck in the Take-Along range.

Olivia

This is the profile of my fifth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Olivia is a female tank wagon belonging to the Sodor Oil Company. She carries the oil for the diesel engines to the fuel depot. Also, she knows that diesel engines are very useful, though some steam engines disagree.

Trivia

  • Olivia's toy model is the "Sodor Oil Company" oil tanker in the Take-Along range.

Fred and Dibnah

This is the profile of my sixth and seventh "Thomas & Friends" characters.

Bio Fred is a foghorn wagon, usually working in Misty Valley. He can be moved about to various places when the weather is forecasting foggy conditions.

Dibnah is the detonator truck belonging to the Brendam Bay Blasting Cap Company. He carries the detonators for the fogmen.

Trivia

  • Fred and Dibnah's toy models are the Fog Trucks in the Take-Along range.
  • Fred and Dibnah were named after Dr Fred Dibnah MBE, a famous TV steeplejack who lived in Bolton, Lancashire.

Yeo

This is the profile of my eighth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Yeo is a very old truck, who had being rotting away in an overgrown siding. But when he was discovered, he was rescued and sent to be restored at the Works. Following his repairs including the fitting of a water tanker, Yeo was painted bright yellow and now, he works with Toby as his water tender.

Trivia

  • Yeo's toy model is the yellow truck with an orange barrel in the Take-Along range.

Ivor, Luke and Oscar

This is the profile of my ninth, tenth and eleventh "Thomas & Friends" characters.

Bio Known by all engines and trucks as "the Tipper Trio", Ivor, Luke and Oscar are the tipper flat-beds and are very troublesome indeed. They take advantage of their tipping abilities to spill their cargo whilst on the move. But, this always lands them into trouble with the Fat Controller.

Ivor is the blue tipper flat-bed, belonging to Sodor Ironworks. Luke is the green tipper flat-bed, belonging to Sodor Timber Company, and Oscar is the orange tipper flat-bed, belonging to the Sodor Oil Company.

Trivia

  • Ivor, Luke and Oscar's toy models are the tipping flat-beds in the Take-Along range.

Christopher and Rebecca

This is the profile of my twelfth and thirteenth "Thomas & Friends" characters.

Bio Christopher and Rebecca are the two heavy-duty trucks on the Skarloey Railway. They carry coal and stone from the mines with the smaller trucks to the Wharf or the Transfer Yards. They work very well together, and they are friendly with the narrow-gauge engines. However, Mighty Mac, being the strongest engine, takes them all the time.

Christopher is the yellow heavy-duty truck, whilst Rebecca is the red one.

Trivia

  • Christopher's toy model is the yellow heavy-duty truck carrying coal in the Take Along range.
  • Rebecca's toy model is the red heavy-duty truck carrying rocks in the Take Along range.

Old Reliable

This is the profile of my fourteenth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Old Reliable is a former narrow-gauge guard's van, belonging to the Sodor Museum. The museum staff restored him and converted him to carry their tools and equipment when they have to make a archaelogical dig, so he is based at the Transfer Yards. Old Reliable always gives advice to the young narrow-gauge engines, and is very friendly for an old guard's van.

Trivia

  • Old Reliable's toy model is the green van belonging to the Sodor Museum in the Take-Along range.

Jurassic

This is the profile of my fifteenth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Jurassic is an open-sided truck, who carries the dinosaur bones for the Sodor Museum and works with Old Reliable. He is a very careful truck, and doesn't like being rushed whereas the trucks would rush things just for fun.

Trivia

  • Jurassic's toy model is the green open-sided truck with the dinosaur skeleton (from Rheneas and the Dinosaur) in the Take-Along range.

C.B.

This is the profile of my sixteenth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio C.B. (which stands for "Crazy Brakevan") is a red brakevan from the United States of America. He works very hard and is kind and helpful, like Toad. After a good day's work, C.B. likes keeping the trucks awake at night with his stories when he was on freight trains in America. Some of the trucks find C.B. quite annoying though!

Trivia

  • C.B.'s toy model is the red musical caboose in the Take-Along range.

Sunshine and H.2.0

This is the profile of my seventeenth and eighteenth "Thomas & Friends" characters.

Bio Sunshine is the Search Light Truck. He is always used during rescues at night-time.

H.2.O is the Fire-Fighting Truck with a hose. Whenever there is a fire, she is always on the scene using her hose.

Sunshine and H.2.O both belong to Sodor Rescue.

Trivia

  • Sunshine and H.2.O's toy models are the Sodor Rescue Trucks Nos 9 and 10 in the Take-Along range.

Pinchy and Eight Legs

This is the profile of my nineteenth and twentieth "Thomas & Friends" characters.

Bio Pinchy and Eight Legs are the Fish Trucks belonging to Sodor Shipping Company, and they live at the Fishing Village where Arthur works.

Pinchy carries the lobsters and crabs, so he gets teased by the other truckss for having a "pinch"!

Eight Legs carries the octopus and squid, which scares the other trucks.

Trivia

  • Pinchy and Eight Legs' toy models are the Fish Trucks in the Take-Along range.

Frosty

This is the profile of my twenty-first "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Frosty is the special post van, who helps out during Christmas when so many post vans are required to carry the presents. Frosty is a very cheerful van and loves seeing the children. During the rest of the year, Frosty helps Thomas and Percy with the post trains at night as a spare van.

Trivia

  • Frosty's toy model is the red Christmas Holiday post van in the Take-Along range.

Sooty

This is the profile of my twenty-second "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Sooty is a van belonging to Sodor Mining Company, who carries the tools and equipment for the coal miners. Like all trucks, he likes to be useful than clean and loves getting covered in coal dust.

Trivia

  • Sooty's toy model is the green mining van in the Take-Along range.

Twelve and Fourteen

This is the profile of my twenty-third and twenty-fourth "Thomas & Friends" characters, and these two are for the Railway Series.

Bio Twelve and Fourteen are two industrial tank engines, who worked at the Steelworks with Sixteen. They were both very reliable engines and always obeyed the rules. They tried their best to warn Sixteen of the DANGER notice, but to no avail. Like Sixteen, they only had numbers as names.

Trivia

  • Twelve's toy model is Thomas' ERTL model painted yellow with blue stripes. Also, he has the number 12 painted on his side tanks, plus black and yellow "hazard" stripes on the rear of his bunker.
  • Fourteen's toy model is Percy's ERTL model painted green with red stripes. Also, he has the number 14 painted on his saddle tank, plus black and yellow "hazard" stripes on the rear of his bunker.

Petrol

This is the profile of my twenty-fifth "Thomas & Friends" character.

Bio Petrol is a new little engine working for Mr. Percival to help Rusty. As Petrol hates the rain, all the steam engines thought he was being lazy until he broke down and Rusty understood that Petrol suffers teething troubles, like Derek.

Personality Being a petrol locomotive, Petrol hates the rain as it makes him weak as his electrics sometimes get wet. However, he is willing to work and tries his very best to be Really Useful.

Basis Petrol is based on the Simplex petrol locomotive with no cab.

Livery Petrol is painted yellow with black stripes and carries the number 10.

Trivia

  • Petrol's toy model is Diesel's ERTL model painted yellow with black stripes, plus the removal of the cab.

Electra

This is the profile of my twenty-sixth "Thomas & Friends" character, who features in my idea of a feature-length musical called "Hiro and the Starlight Express".

Bio Nicknamed "the Daddy-Long-Legs", Electra works along the newly-refurbished coastal run with electrical wires above him providing the power, making him the only electric train on Sodor.

Personality Electra believes that elctric trains are better than steam engines and diesel engines, hence his participation in the race using the coastal run. He claims himself to work on alternative current (AC) and direct current (DC). After losing the race to Hiro, Electra runs away during a storm.

Basis Electra is based on the very unusual electric train with sixteen wheels, which once ran along the beaches east of Brighton, East Sussex with the tidal water surrounding it.

Livery Electra has a grey frame and grey supports with a red and cream coach body on his deck.

Trivia

  • The Electric Coastal Run (which is Electra's line) consists of four rails running along the coast, west of Brendam. Two pairs of lines are 2 foot gauge, though the total width of the line is 18 foot gauge.

Li

This is the profile of my twenty-seventh "Thomas & Friends" character, who, like Electra, features in "Hiro and the Starlight Express"

Bio Li is the legendary midnight train, nicknamed "the Starlight Express". When Hiro runs out of luck, he calls for Li to help him. Li convinces Hiro to believe in himself. However, he helps Hiro by giving him his legendary Starlight Coal.

Personality Li is a very kind steam engine for his huge size. He always helps any engine in distress in the night. His Starlight Coal provides good fuel for those poorly steam engines.

Basis Li is a tenderless version of a British-built Chinese steam engine with a 4-4-0 wheel arrangement and a cow-catcher in front.

Livery Li has very similar livery to Hiro, black with red wheels.

Trivia

  • Like Lady, Li is a magical steam engine.

Bill, Ben and Baby Jane

The Flying Bufferbeam

Bill and Ben are overworked at the China Clay Pits, and their manager agrees that they need another engine. But, the route to the quarry goes under a very low bridge, which means that BoCo and Edward can't help them. However one evening, Bill and Ben tell them about their twins, Alfed and Judy and a low-down tank engine called Flying Bufferbeam, who have being preserved. A few days later, the Fat Controller and the China Clay Manager visit the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre where the Flying Bufferbeam lives. Sadly, the Flying Bufferbeam is under overhaul, but the volunteers kindly give the Fat Controller copies of the Flying Bufferbeam's original plans.

Withdrawn

Once the Fat Controller returns to Sodor, he tells Bill and Ben that they are going to have a new engine working with them. The twins are very pleased, so too are Edward and BoCo. But when the Big Engines hear about this, they think that Bill and Ben are going to be withdrawn from service. Quickly, the rumour spreads amongst the Fat Controller's Engines until Thomas and BoCo tell them the truth. Gordon, Henry and James feel very silly for thinking that Bill and Ben were being taken out of service.

A New Engine and an Actress

Many months later, the new engine for the Sodor China Clay Company is finished and goes through its tests at the Works. The Fat Controller announces that a special naming ceremony will be taking place at Wellsworth, with a special guest coming from London to name the new engine. All the engines know that the new engine is presently called S.C.C No. 3. On the big day, Emma and Pip arrive from London with the special guest - an actress called Jane Horrocks. Jane Horrocks pulls the curtain to announce the new engine's name - Baby Jane! Also, she releases a bottle of champagne to confirm Baby Jane's offical launch into service on the railway.

Problems for Baby Jane

Baby Jane starts working with Bill and Ben at the China Clay Pits. But, due to her high front bufferbeam, Baby Jane finds it hard to see ahead, so she accidentally gives the trucks a hard bump, which makes them cross. Also, her driver and fireman find it hard to see outside the cab because it has a very low roof. Bill and Ben feel sorry for Baby Jane and their manager sends his new engine back to the Works for some modications. A few days later, Baby Jane comes home without a cab, but plus the addition of a huge pair of glasses fitted for her eyes.

Invasion of the Monorail

This is my second idea of a "Thomas & Friends" feature-length musical.

Plot

All the members of the Steam Team (Thomas, Edward, Gordon, Henry, James, Percy, Toby, Duck, Donald, Douglas, Oliver and Emily) are at Knapford station to await the arrival of their old friend, BoCo. Meanwhile, BoCo and the Fat Controller are heading back to Knapford from Sodor Diesel Works when they discover a length of monorail on the express line. So, they follow it. As they come near to the end of the monorail on Gordon's Hill, a biker called P. T. Boomer takes BoCo and the Fat Controller as prisoners, thinking that they were spying on him.

After many hours waiting at Knapford, the welcome party is cancelled. To make matters worse, Lady Hatt arrives, wondering where her husband is. The station master declares a state of emergency to find the Fat Controller and BoCo. Prior to the search, the Steam Team decide that Edward is to be Controller of the railway in the meantime.

The next morning, Harold arrives at Tidmouth Sheds to tell the Steam Team about the monorail on the express line. All the engines are quite concerned that the monorail is a threat to them as they run on a pair of rails. During his search, Thomas follows the monorail from its rail-head at Wellsworth, up and over Gordon's Hill to some overgrown sidings where he meets a railway motorbike called Michelle, who is working with Diesel 10. Thomas sees Rosie as he leaves the sidings and warns her about the monorail. With hardly any coal left in his bunker, Thomas goes to Great Waterton to stay in the Tram Shed for the night.

Meanwhile, Rosie takes Annie and Clarabel for Thomas. Once back at Knapford, Rosie tells Annie and Clarabel that she is very lonely, so they suggest to stay with Thomas for the night. So, Rosie goes to Great Waterton.

During the night, Michelle discusses her plans with all the naughty diesel engines. As well as extending her monorail, she is after one particular steam engine - Spencer the Silver Streak!

The next morning, Thomas and Rosie head back to Knapford and they are very worried about the threat of the monorail. Enroute, Michelle speeds past them, so they give chase. However, their chase ends as they crash into the buffers at Wellsworth and come off the rails. Meanwhile, P. T. Boomer and Michelle are seeing the monorail being extended towards Knapford.

Harold sees Thomas and Rosie off the rails, so he finds Edward, who sends Donald and Douglas to take Rocky whilst Emily takes the flat-beds. But, taking Thomas and Rosie to Sodor Steamworks will be too much for Emily. Luckily, Spencer arrives from Brendam Docks and quickly puts his boasting aside to help Emily and the Scottish Twins. At Wellsworth, Rocky puts Thomas and Rosie onto the flat-beds between Emily and Spencer. On route to the Steamworks, Emily sees Diesel 10, who is hunting down Spencer. Quickly, the two tender engines (with Thomas and Rosie between them) puff away, so Diesel 10 gives chase....!

Luckily for the Steamies, Diesel 10 runs out of fuel, so they get Thomas and Rosie to the Steamworks. Emily goes back to Tidmouth whilst Spencer stays at the Steamworks until nightfall, in the hope that he won't be hunted down. That night, Spencer heads back to Tidmouth, only to find Diesel 10 (now refuelled, thanks to 'Arry and Bert) on his tracks again. Spencer takes a short-cut across the marshes where an old bridge breaks under his weight and he falls into the mud. Diesel 10 leaves Spencer where he is!

At the overgrown sidings, the Fat Controller finds Old Slow Coach as a prisoner too, and with BoCo, they suggest an escape plan.

By morning, the fitters have fixed Thomas and Rosie, much to the delights of Victor and Kevin. During their steam test and final inspection, Thomas and Rosie express thier love for each other from deep inside their boilers. After their steam test, they head back to Knapford.

Back at the overgrown sidings, Diesel 10 is breaking up Spencer, and then with P. T. Boomer go along the mainline to check the monorail, only to discover that Thomas and Rosie are in working order. P. T. Boomer is furious, and demands Diesel 10 to explain why the two tank engines are still alive. Diesel 10 sheepishly confesses that he ran out of fuel whilst he chased them! Once back at their base, P. T. Boomer interrupts Michelle's victory claim, to explain that Thomas and Rosie are still alive. Michelle tells Diesel 10 to hunt the two tank engines down.

Still heading back to Knapford, Thomas is going too fast for Rosie to catch up. Once Rosie catches up, Mavis arrives to warn them about Diesel 10. But, Thomas and Rosie are no longer worried about the monorail.

That night, BoCo, old Slow Coach and the Fat Controller escape from P. T. Boomer and Michelle, though Spencer is left behind in pieces. They arrive at the Quarry to find Fergus, Duke, Derek, Hank, Hiro (visting the island) and Charlie all there. Victor arrives and agrees with the Fat Controller to rescue Spencer. With help from Duck, Oliver, Rocky and the Scottish Twins, Victor gets Spencer to the Steamworks.

The next day, Michelle and P. T. Boomer go along the monorail, only to come off it at it's rail-head miles away from Knapford. With Spencer being rescued during the previous night, the diesels were trying to catch him again; so, no work on the extension of the monorail had being done! Thomas and Rosie arrive at the monorail's rail-head with the Fat Controller whilst Harold arrives with the police. The police take P. T. Boomer to prison on the Mainland whilst Michelle is sent to Bertie's bus depot to be converted into a normal motorbike... for the roads.

Many weeks later, the monorail is removed and replaced with a pair of rails on the express line. BoCo's "welcome home" party takes place at Knapford station, with Thomas and Rosie as the guests of honour. Spencer arrives at the party, as a patchwork engine (with a round face, as his streamlined door is yet to be fitted). But, all the engines on Sodor and the Fat Controller are happy that the railways on the Island of Sodor will always be proper railways!
