The Storyteller

The Storyteller was asked to open a new library, but first Thomas had to show her a special part of the line to give her inspiration for a story. Thomas, however, was delayed helping James, Emily and Percy, but luckily the storyteller knew what to do: she made a story about Thomas. She appears to be good friends with Lady Hatt.

The Injured Sailor

The injured sailor appeared in the third season episode, All at Sea. After he injured his hand during the regatta, Harold brought him to Duck and Duck to Bertie, who then took him to the hospital.

He also made a cameo in the fifth season song, Harold the Helicopter.

The Quarry-master

The Quarry-master was in charge of China Clay works. When a rock-slide started at the quarry, the quarry-master was nearly left behind, but he clambered aboard one of the trucks just in time.

The quarry-master only appeared in the third season episodes, One Good Turn and Heroes.

He also appeared cameo in the fifth season song, Every Cloud has a Silver Lining.

Daisy's fitter is a man who checks Daisy every day before she goes to work. Compare to Daisy, he told her never to pull any coaches or trucks.

The Elephant Caper is the caper of the circus elephant. His only appearance was in the fourth season episode, Henry and the Elephant.

The Portly Man

ThePortlyMan

The Portly Man only appeared in the fourth season episode, Sleeping Beauty. He wore a green jacket, a white shirt, cream trousers and a red and green bobble hat.

He, Jem Cole, Farmer Trotter and two other men went on a search for Duke. He found Duke after accidentally falling through the roof of his shed and landing on his saddletank.

The Firelighter

TheFirelighter

The firelighter is a specialist workman who helps out with lighting fires for steam engines. He wears a blue coat, white shirt, black tie and brown overalls and cap.

The Firelighter once came to see why Gordon's fire would not light. He then found out that there were "gremlins" in Gordon's fire.

The firelighter was mentioned in the second season episode, Thomas Comes to Breakfast and the third season episode, A Scarf for Percy and later appeared in the fifth season episode, Gordon and the Gremlin.

The Special Visitor

SpecialVisitor

The Special Visitor came to the Island of Sodor to build a new playground for the children as their old one had closed. He, along with the Fat Controller, utilised Harold to see possible areas for the new playground. As a result, rumours spread amongst the engines that they were to be replaced by Harold, but these were found to be untrue after Gordon's accident in a tunnel. From the crash, he found the perfect sand for the new playground and everyone smiled.

The special visitor appeared in the fifth season episode, Thomas and the Rumours. He was first mentioned in the 1989 magazine stories, An Important Visitor and Rumours and Speculation. In the latter story, the Fat Controller mentions that his name is Mr. Walsh.

Mrs. Kyndley's Daughter

Mrs. Kyndley's Daughter was to get married, but Mrs. Kyndley did not have a good luck package for her and so Percy and his crew found one, consisting of Thomas, Old Slow Coach, new buffers and a flat truck. The delighted bride thanked the engines and gave Percy a kiss, much to Thomas' laughter.

Mrs. Kyndley's daughter only appeared in the fifth season episode, Happy Ever After.

Tiger Moth's Pilot

Tiger Moth's pilot is a show-off who has a reputation for flying too low. He later got his comeuppance after he crashed into a haystack. the Fat Controller requested the pilot be grounded. In his second appearance, he piloted The Hot Air Balloon for the Fat Controller and Lady Hatt but accidentally crashed into a tree.

Although the pilot only had two lines, in the fifth season episode Sir Topham Hatt's Holiday, he appears to be rather pompous and a bit of a yes-man. He later appeared in the seventh season episode, The Grand Opening.

The Lighthouse Keeper

The Lighthouse Keeper is in charge of warning ships that get too close to the rocky shore. In his first appearance, he warned Thomas of eroded tracks on the coastal route, Once a fuse broke in the lighthouse, so Salty suggested to the Lighthouse Keeper that Fergus' flywheel be used to power the generator.

He first appeared in the fifth season episode, Something in the Air and has made infrequent appearances ever since then he reappeared in the seventh season episode, Salty's Stormy Tale. In more recent seasons, Cyril the Fogman appears to be the Lighthouse Keeper.

He also appeared in a sixth season music video as well as a seventh season music video.

The Railway Board

These are a group of men who help run the North Western Railway and make decisions about which engines to keep. For some reason, they prefer to ride in Bertie. They also look very much alike.

The Captain

TheCaptain

The Captain was in charge of a big ship that was heading for Sodor. During the ship's voyage, a distant lighthouse lost power. Thanks to the quick-thinking of Salty, Fergus was attached to the Lighthouse's generator, thus keeping the captain and his ship safe. The next morning, he thanked Salty and Fergus for their hard work.

The Fisherman

The fisherman goes out to sea to catch fish near the Fishing Village, though he can be seen working at other places.

Once, Thomas was sent to collect some fish and was impatient with the workmen, the fisherman teased him and told him to enjoy the smell of fish, in-which Thomas snorted in disgust.

Dusty Miller

Dusty Miller has his own windmill for making flour on Toby's Branch Line. He also sometimes helps out at the Hillside Mill near the Skarloey Railway. He is good friends with Toby and Lady Hatt.

When his windmill was struck by lightning, Toby wanted to help. That chance came sooner than expected when Toby came across a tree and asked if he could use it to rebuild the mill. When the windmill was rebuilt, the miller named it Toby's Windmill in thanks.

  • Early sketches for the CGI model call him "Windy Miller". This happens to be a character from the 1966 children's show "Camberwick Green".

Headmaster Hastings is the headmaster of Strawberry Grove School. One day, Duncan was pulling an organ for the school when his whistle shot off into a field and Headmaster Hastings used the organ as a replacement.

Headmaster Hastings only appeared in the sixth season episode, Faulty Whistles and the seventh season music videos, The Whistle Song. He also appeared in the magazine story, Musical Duncan. His organ later appear in the seventh season episode, Best Dressed Engine.
