The Early Years is a US DVD release featuring two discs, each containing thirteen first season episodes narrated by Ringo Starr in the original UK format, and an additional disc with extras. All 26 episodes have restored picture and sound.

  • When the trucks push Thomas down Gordon's Hill in Thomas and the Trucks the picture does not match the sound.
  • The scene of James spinning on the turntable in Tenders and Turntables is slowed down.
  • When the Fat Controller says "We can not allow that" in Trouble in the Shed he is not putting his hat on.
  • Henry moves and Edward doesn't in Coal.
  • Some fade effects are missing from Whistles and Sneezes.
  • In a close up of Thomas in Thomas in Trouble, Thomas' wheels haven't turned yet. A second later, his wheels turn.
  • In the Sir Topham Hatt narration of Thomas and Gordon, Percy and Toby are mentioned, yet they hadn't arrived on the Railway yet.
  • In the Who Am I? game Clarabel is spelled with an extra "L"
